Even the smallest flat has several interior spaces in need of lighting. Most modern family homes have a minimum of ten spaces, without counting exterior areas, which require illuminating. This can be a decorating nightmare for those who are not interested in lighting up their lives (or more particularly, their special spaces). However, I have never met anyone yet who has not shown some spark of interest in lighting. Designs in home lighting nowadays are so interesting and diverse that there is always something to stimulate the imagination.
We all know that the main role of home lighting is functional. It helps us to undertake the daily tasks we need to perform in safety, as well as offering comfort and security. However, it also creates ambience to put us in the right mood to enjoy our space. Each room fulfils its own purpose and having the right type of lighting will make or mar our pleasure in that space.
Safety comes first when it comes to home lighting, however. Certain spaces, like hallways and stairways, need good lighting to prevent accidents. Staircases ought to be lit from the bottom to the top to create an even distribution of light.
Kitchens are often the heart of the home and lighting needs to be adequate for the practicalities of cooking, helping the children with homework etc,as well as creating mood-enhancement if used for dining or for friends and family to gather.
Living rooms and dining rooms need to be lit to create their own unique ambience. The right home lighting will create the atmosphere you want to light up your life and your home.
